Essentials before luxuries – Libs’ challenge to Labor and Greens on size of Parliament

The Liberals believe that it would be irresponsible to increase the size of Parliament until Tasmania’s budget is fixed.  It’s clear from the Mid Year Financial Report that this won’t be happening anytime soon, and certainly not before the next election.

With another tough budget forecast, we should be spending our precious funds on frontline services, not more politicians.

It’s time to deliver certainty to the community over this issue, and so tomorrow we will debate a motion which seeks the Parliament’s agreement to conduct the next state election on a 25-seat model.

It’ll be up to Labor and the Greens to tell Tasmanians where their priorities lie.

The motion was as follows -

I give notice that on tomorrow I shall move:

That this House agrees that the next state election for the House of Assembly be conducted on the current 25 seat model.
