Forestry trade mission welcome; but reveals lack of trust within the Government
I am pleased that the Premier has agreed with the Liberals’ call to counter the misinformation about Tasmania’s forest industry that is being spread around the globe by the Greens.
I am also pleased that the Premier believes that there is more that can be done to support our forest industry, which is one of the pillars of our economy.
What is disturbing is that there is such a lack of trust within the Green-Labor Government that the Premier didn’t even tell the two Greens ministers that an international forestry trade mission was being planned.
How can this Government possibly function with this level of distrust and secrecy within the Cabinet?
Before knowing Mr Green was going, Mr McKim yesterday launched a tirade against me for even suggesting it.
Mr McKim’s colleague, Senator Milne said the trip would be: “...an ultimate betrayal and it would be effectively the Premier tearing up the intergovernmental agreement.”
It’s no wonder that our overseas trade markets are confused about the Government’s policy on timber, when the Government can’t even agree amongst themselves.
