Giddings challenged to explain why Tasmanians paying carbon tax on their electricity

From today, average power bills will increase by around $250 per year – half of which will be because of the unfair carbon tax.

This tax is a double-whammy on Tasmanians because we have already paid more than $2 billion for our renewable hydro energy.

Ms Giddings must explain to Tasmanians why we are paying a carbon tax on our carbon-free hydro power.

It just doesn’t make sense.

Ms Giddings should take up our policy to ensure that non-contestable households and small businesses don’t have to pay the carbon tax on electricity.

As outlined in our Roadmap to Recovery and Growth, this will save the average household $125 per year, make Tasmania the only state were households and small businesses don’t have to pay the carbon tax on electricity, and inject $160 million back into our economy.
