Today’s announcement that Labor will lock up another 170,000 hectares of Tasmanian forests is all about appeasing the Greens, and nothing about Tasmania’s best interests.

Confirmation that despite our unacceptably high unemployment rate Tasmanian businesses need to import skilled labour highlights the desperate need to improve education and training levels in our state.

On Australia Day I’m reminded of how lucky I am to not just be an Australian, but to be a Tasmanian.

The Liberals have always believed that the forest deal is a politically motivated deal by Labor to appease the Greens and stay in power.

Labor’s plans to list over 100,000 hectares of our forests as World Heritage, prior to even a vote on the job-destroying forest deal, rides rough-shod over Tasmanians and the Tasmanian Parliament.

Earlier today I visited the Forestier and Tasman Peninsulas and was struck by the destructive force of the fire down there.  This is an absolute tragedy for many Tasmanians and my heart goes out to them.

It’s clear that this is the worst bush fire disaster since the tragic fires of 1967.

My thoughts and those of my Liberal colleagues are with those Tasmanians who have suffered loss as a result of the devastating fires that have ravaged our state.

Labor and the Greens have no one but themselves to blame.

Yesterday the Premier announced $25 million to stimulate the economy, today she has announced $40 million to shut the economy down.

Labor has had 14 years, more than 100 job plans, and 7,000 jobs have been lost since Lara Giddings became Premier.

People should judge Labor not by their latest promises, but by their record.

The Liberal team today showed their support for Tasmanians in need by donating food items and lending a helping hand packing Christmas hampers at Foodbank.
